Remembering the 1930s
The
Gage County Historical Society is excited about a publication to be completed
for 2010 Christmas sales as a fundraiser for the Society. This book will be a
compilation of stories and pictures pertaining to the 1930’s. The Society will
be collecting stories and photographs submitted by the public and supplementing
those with historical articles. Some of you will remember the 1930s, first hand,
while others will remember them through their parents, grandparents and other
family members or friends. Those stories, often times, have not been recorded
and are important to remember, especially now, as we face some of the same
challenges. Each story will be allowed one page with one picture or about 500
words. If you do not want to write your own story, we would be happy to write it
for you, with your approval and editing. To enter your story and picture is
absolutely free. We cannot reiterate enough how important your family’s
story is and that it should be placed on paper. If you have a story, passed down
or experienced, about surviving those hot, thin years and would like to share
that story with others, please contact the Gage County Historical Society at
402-228-1679, email gagecountymuseum@beatricene.com or Gage County Historical
Society, PO Box 793, Beatrice NE 68310. All entries must be submitted by
October 1, 2010. If enough entries are not received the book will not be
printed.

Gage County is located in south central Nebraska. It was named in honor of the Reverend William Gage, a Methodist minister, who was chaplain of the first territorial assembly in 1856. Between 1855 and 1882, the southern half of the county was set aside for the Otoe-Missouri Indian Reservation.
